Ik kon het niet laten ook eens wat te delen met je, over de rijke geschiedenis die Engeland heeft mbt radiopiraten.

In Nederland werden zo rond 1989 de meeste 24/7 radiopiraten uitgeroeid door de overheid.  Wat overbleef waren wat leuke weekend radiopiraten en dat duurde volgens mij tot 1994. Ik denk dan even aan het immens populaire Counterpoint FM als hoogtepunt.
In onderstaande tabel is te zien dat er in London vanaf 1991 juist een steeds groter aantal piratenstations in de ether kwam en in 1994 piekte als nooit tevoren.

Hoe staat het er heden ten dage voor met de radiopiraten in London?

Kijk maar eens naar een scan van de FM band van iemand uit dit gebied. De scan is van juli 2010.

Veel activiteit dus in de Londonse ether. Deze informatie komt overigens van dit forum wat redelijk actieve gebruikers heeft. Op datzelfde forum ook een foto topic met tientallen pagina’s gevuld met foto’s van hoge locaties, zenders, antenne’s en ander leuk spul.

Er is nog veel meer informatie te vinden over radiopiraten. Op de website The Pirate Archive staat veel informatie over de piraten uit het gebied Midlands, wat het centrale deel van Engeland is. Vooral veel kranten artikelen, video’s, foto’s, audiofragmenten en ze hebben een forum.
Er staan ook leuke verhalen op van ex medewerkers!

…The main TX and link receiver are on a timer in the lift room, to start just before 6pm every night. The link TX is switched on manually in the studio about the same time. Wait for the dead carrier (this is a great feeling, as far as I am concerned “the best sound on radio” the silence ahhhh! you know its good then). After a couple of days messing about, trying to get the best link possible (this isn’t as easy as it sounds) we were ready to broadcast to the West Midlands once more…

…I am just pulling into the road where the studio is located in Old Hill, and I heard that dreaded sound “hisssssssssss” the main TX was off. I pulled up outside the studio block, where I was met by 5 or 6 dj’s running toward me.”Get the f**k out of here Craig, the DTI are upstairs in the studio doing a bust, and they are looking for you”.Reverse gear, foot down, off I went. Old Hill had lasted about 3 to 4 months, and the DTI had decided this time, not only to take the main TX, but to take the studio as well. ..
